To close the visit, Paparo, Tocorzic and McCampbell leadership recognized five Sailors for their hard work. Paparo and Pacific Fleet’s Fleet Master Chief Petty Officer James Tocorzic provided remarks about the strategic and operational environment in the Indo-Pacific region and answered questions from the crew. Facing the grave responsibility of preparing the Navy for war, Richardson understood that this was his top priority. Paparo’s visit included a brief tour of the ship and an opportunity for the crew to interface with their Fleet Commander and Fleet Master Chief. McCampbell recently executed a homeport shift from Vigor shipyard in Portland, OR to Naval Station Everett culminating a depot modernization yards period. The day before his death he wrote to his parents. On September 11th 1943, Carl was killed in an accident in Sicily. Carl was a Fighter Pilot within the 85th Fighter Squadron, 79th Fighter Group.
